Hello world.

Thanks for visiting. On these pages I will attempt to make sense of my unhealthy obsession with the game of football, using the tools and techniques I’ve learned working as a Business Intelligence Consultant first in the UK and then most recently in Sydney, Australia.

Football…Business Intelligence…Football Intelligence! See what I did there.

Hopefully if you’re visiting this site you already know what football is. But some of you may be thinking ‘what the hell is Business Intelligence?!’…

Business intelligenceĀ (BI) is an umbrella term that includes the applications, infrastructure and tools, and best practices that enable access to and analysis of information to improve and optimize decisions and performance. – Gartner

When I first fell in love with football, the only numbers that mattered were goals, points, and how many pints Tony Adams could drink after a game. Now every aspect of the game is analysed with data down to the number of times Cristiano Ronaldo flexes his neck muscles during a game stored and pored over by an army of analysts. With so much data now available, there must be some interesting stories we can discover. If so, I will post them here.
